User level Security account wizard

Hello,

Currently, I'm using a database (Access XP) that is located on a network and
Shared by other users. I recently copied the database from the network and
Pasted it on my desktop. Next, I used the security wizard to create user
Accounts with different rights. My problem occurs when I attempt to open the
database. Once I login as a user and then close the database, and when I
reopen the database, I don't see an option to change the user login and
password. It takes me to my last login account. Any idea?? I haven’t tried
to put the database back on the network yet. It's sitting on the desktop.
Could that be the problem?? And yes, I did look at some of the reports by
Microsoft. Again, to clarify the question, I want to be able to see the login
prompt every time I open the database. That way it will let me select a
different user. Thanks.

There is quite a bit more to user level security than just running the
wizard. See the website in my signature for links to several documents
that will teach you how to do it properly.

BTW - the key to getting Access to ask for a userID and password is to
apply a password to the Admin user.

I have already supplied a username and password to the admin user. The
strange thing is that it happens sometimes???

Are you using a customized shortcut to launch Access so that you are
certain of the workgroup that is being used?

John, you need to be very careful with the language you use when
discussing Access security. As you doubtless know, Access has a default
user called Admin. But in your sentence: "I supplied a username to the
admin user", I suspect that you are not referring to that default user.

Don't say things like "the admin user", unless you mean the default
Admin user. Otherwise, everyone just gets confused. Instead, say
something like "the user who I want to have administrative control of
the database", or somesuch.

HTH,
TC
