I have to call it a takeover but it maybe a profile over write. Anyway, some
time back I got a new computer. Set up my username, password protected it.
Then as I received newsletters, ebooks and other thing things I had signed up
for in my real name. I noticed, I now have an admin file under my real name
and it has completly taken over everything. The big problem is that when I
save anything, It is being saved in both files at the some time, and if i
delete something it deletes from both. Considering the fact the both are now
quite large and running at the same time, it is eating up my ram and slowing
things down bigtime. The user name only shows up at the log-on. How do I get
rid of one an retain the other? Thanks for any help you can give me.

While logged on to the account that you normally use, click Start and then
Run. Type

%userprofile%

into the text box and click OK. What folder does Explorer focus on when it
opens?

Under Documents and Settings, what do you see for user folders? A folder
for your name and for admin? Is "admin" the actual name or are you
abbreviating it in this post?

PS: Your RAM is fine. If there is duplication, it is hard drive space that
is at risk. Also, only one person can be logged in at a time. Fast user
switching will keep an account loaded while another user is active but the
session for the inactive account is, well.., inactive.

Thanks Sharon F,
I did as you said.
Here"s what I found.
Run, typed %UserAccount%, Showed me to be logged in with my "Real Name".
Yet I had type my password under "angelpenny" my chosen username, on Wellcome screen.
I then opened My Computer, using explore.
Things got a little crazy for a few seconds. The explore collum started racking like a slot machine.
But now at least I only have one List of all the programs and software. It is under
My Computer/My Documents/Progams/.....and so on.
Before Everything was listed twice.
Once under " angelpenny"the user name, and again under my " My Real Name".
Now under " My Real Name", is My Documents/Temp.
The Temp folder shows all the permment cookies for all my marketing contacts.
So I am in better shape.
Do I leave well enough alone?
Do you have other idea's? Thanks Much.

Thanks Sharon F,
My Computer/My Documents/Progams/.....and so on.

Yes, I think you're fine.

A few things happen in XP that confuse the heck out of some users.

1) You rename an account. The name that appears on the welcome screen and
in some places changes showing the new name. In other places -especially
the user's personal folders under Documents and Settings - XP retains the
old name. You can change the "friendly" name many times (rename an
account). That underlying folder will still retain the "old" name.

2) Some folders such as \Documents and Settings\<username>\Documents show
up within Windows Explorer several times - under desktop as well as within
the file structure. These multiple views cause some folks to wrongly
conclude there is duplication of files and folders when in reality there is
only ONE set of user folders.

I think you got trapped somewhere between those 2. Very common place to
trip up until you start to understand how XP's Explorer presents these
items.

There is another situation - a user's profile becomes corrupt and XP
creates a temporary account so that the user can at least log on and regain
access to their data, repair or replace their damaged account, etc.

Some users unknowingly operate daily with that temporary account and
eventually start wondering why it behaving differently. This isn't what
happened to you but it is why I wanted you to do the %userprofile% command.
I wanted you to see exactly where your folders were (and rule out profile
corruption), see what folders XP was using for your account; and finally,
that going through the steps would connect a few of the (XP) dots for you.
