User Display Screen

I have set up multiple accounts w/XP. However, the intro screen always says
that accounts have1 unread email message (even if there are none). If there
are 1 or more unread messages it displays the correct total - if there are no
unread email messages it still displays one unread message. I use Outlook
for email. Any tips?

I think we covered every last possible eventuality - in two languages sort

By default Outlook not marks email as read after you focus on email and
read it.
You should move to the next email.

You can go to the Outlook options and set "mark email as read after I
positioned on the email for a second".
Tools -> Options -> Other -> Reading Pane -> ...
