Hello Everyone,

I've created a custom form called TESTFORM using Outlook 2000 SR-1 (XP
OS) that includes several text boxes. After I assign new fields to
these text boxes they appear (via 'Choose Field') in the 'User-defined
fields in Inbox >' instead of 'TESTFORM >'. Why is this? Please
advise.

Many thanks,
Nick.

Hi Sue, these are the steps I'm using...

1. Create new form by clicking Tools > Forms > Choose Form > Message
(within Standard Forms Library)
2. Go to Tools > Forms > Design This Form
3. Display Page P.2
4. Open Control Toolbox then add a text box.
5. Publish Form as TESTFORM in Personal Forms Library
6. Go back into TESTFORM via Tools > Forms > Choose Form > TESTFORM (via
Personal Forms Library)
7. Right-click the text box, choose Properties, then switch to the Value
tab. Click New to create the new field.

At this point they appear in the 'User-defined fields in Inbox >'
instead of 'TESTFORM >'.

Thanks again.

That's an OK procedure to follow, although it's simpler to create the field
in the Field Chooser, then drag it to the form. By using that procedure, you
should see it on the (All Fields) page of the form as both User-defined
Fields in This Folder (i.e. the Inbox, since it's a message form) and
User-defined Fields in This Item. In other words, you now have added the
field to both the folder and the form.

You will, of course, need to publish the form again in order for this
change -- adding the field to the form -- to take effect. You can, in fact,
move until after Step 7.

The newsgroup interface at Developersdex (http://www.developersdex.com) does
not automatically quote the text of the original message when you post a
reply. Please take the time to quote the original message manually so that
people reading your current response can understand what you're talking
about. Otherwise, you may not receive the answer you're looking for.

I've tried creating the field exactly how you suggested, however they
only appear in 'User-defined fields in Inbox' and NOT in 'User-defined
fields in this Item'. Any ideas?

Many thanks.

In your latest test, what are the *exact* steps you've used to create the
field and to check where Outlook put it?
