User cannot access mapped drives after password change

This happens to a few users here. Whenever they change their network
password due to the expiry rules set in the AD, they lose the rights to get
to their mapped network drives. To solve the issue, we have to delete the
mapped drives and remap it exactly how it was before. This has to be done
EVERYTIME a user changes their password. How do I fix this so we don't have
to do this every time?

We have Windows Server 2003 and users have Windows XP SP2. They log onto
our domain.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Do the users change their password and log off and back onto their machine
afterwards?
Why do you map the drives 'persistent' anyway?
