I'm using XP Home Edition. After restoring XP after an
operating system crash, I established user accounts for
each member of my family. My account is an administrator
account, and everyone else's is a limited account.

I'm having difficulties with program access in the other
user accounts. Quicken, for example, will open when I'm
logged in, but it will not open when I'm logged in as my
wife's account.

I purposely made my account the only administrator to
avoid someone making accidental changes and to try to
impede infections from viruses.

Thanks, Dan

I actually tried this first. However, I got an error
saying that Uninstall Shield was running. I've also
tried, unsuccessfully, to install other programs from my
wife's account.

As far as I know, you cannot install programs from a limited account. You
can use the run as command or you can navigate to Administrative
Tools\Computer Management\System Tools\Groups and make your wife a member of
the Power User Group. This would give her rights to all applications. But
the simplest soulution is just to make her a member of the Admin Group. With
a good firewall (NOT THE WINDOWS FIREWALL!) and great virus protection, you
will have no worries.

Whoa - I appreciate the help, but you went over my head.
Can you give me a little more direction on how to use
these monitoring programs? I don't understand your "hint."

Thanks, Dan

Get filemon and regmon from www.sysinternals.com (hint use Edit menu - Filters)

Find out what it doesn't like. Change security
