I have XP Pro. For some unknown reason, the icon in
Control Panel for User Accounts won't respond when I
click on it. Short of completely reinstalling XP Pro,
what can I do? Thanks.

Hi David,

Start/run msconfig, click on "expand file" (general tab)

File to expand: nusrmgr.cpl
From: X:\I386
To: %windir%\system32

Where X is whatever letter is assigned your CD drive (you need your WinXP CD
for this), change it accordingly. If your system was preinstalled, you may
find this instead on the hard drive under C:\Windows\I386. If so, change the
"from" line accordingly. Reboot when finished.

I've tried your suggestion several times, as well as the
manual way (start, expand e:\i386\nusrmgr.cp_
c:\windows\system32\nusrmgr.cpl), to no avail. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you having trouble expanding the file, or its expanding correctly, but
not resolving your issue?

From the command line, the format I use, and never fails is:

EXPAND -R X:\I386\NUSRMGR.CP_ C:\Windows\System32

Where X: is your CD-ROM drive and it assumes that Windows is installed on C,
in the Windows directory.

The file expansion appears to work fine (I double-checked
by doing it exactly as you indicate below), but nothing
happens after I re-boot and click on the User Accounts
icon. Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi David,

What happens if you double click the nusrmgr.cpl file right from Windows
Explorer?

Same thing, i.e., nothing.
