I recently set up a .Net passport account and when I did it added an ASP.NET
account as a user. I have Windows set to come up with the Welcome screen but
now it comes up with my user logon and I have to click onto it and then it
loads my settings. I don't see a way to delete the ASP. NET user account.
How can I do this? Thanks!

Start> Run>
control userpasswords2
Uncheck the box requiring a password to logon. Answer the prompts in the
following screens that will appear to select the account that you want
logged on automatically.

CAVEAT: If using XP Home, do not use other portions of the "control
userpasswords2" interface. Use Control Panel> Users Accounts instead.

NOTE: The installation of the .NET Framework from Windows Update is what
added the ASP.NET Machine account to your setup.

i have a similar problem. before yesterday all i had to
do was turn my computer on and xp would load. then
yesterday i installed the service pak 1, and now i have
to click on my name to finish loading xp which i hate
and don't want to have to do evertime i boot

Sharon, I'm in real trouble now. I unchecked the box requiring user
passwords. When I hit apply it brought up a screen allowing auto sign on
for a particular user . There are four users on the PC: Administrator, me,
ASP.NET and Guest but there is really only one user and that's me. It came
up with the administrator's account so I changed it to my account ( I have
my account as administrator too) and entered a password. I then recycled and
Windows came up with the message "System Could Not Logon. Make sure name and
domain are correct, then type your password again.....". I could logon on
by just pressing ok.I went back and forth between the check and uncheck
several times and it just didn't work so I decided to leave it checked. At
least that way I only had to click onto the name and I didn't get a
message. The last time I did this and I recycled to make sure it came up, it
just sat there saying " Windows logging on" but it never did. I restarted
the PC several times and it would not log on to Windows. I tried to start
the PC in safe mode but it won't even let me do that. It hangs up. What can
I do? I tried changing something using control userpassword2 months ago and
got into a mess just like this one. I had to reinstall Windows. If I ever
get out of this, I'll never touch it again. HELP!

Constance,
"control userpasswords2" has been working consistently for most setups. Why
it's not working on yours, I don't know. A few other choices for you:

*Leave things as they are. One click and your profile is logged on.

*Use TweakUI for XP to create an autologon. This will automate the logon
steps which will appear on the screen very briefly. The time to get to the
desktop would be about the same amount of time that it would take you to
click the link for your account at the welcome screen.
