sharonf,
However I don't see an entry for
NoUserNameInStartMenu . Where should that be?
Normally if NoUserNameInStartMenu does not exist, it is the same thing as if
it were set to 0. Meaning that the policy is NOT in effect.
But you need to see if NoUserNameInStartMenu is listed under this registry
key also...
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\
Policies\Explorer
If NoUserNameInStartMenu exists in that key, double click
NoUserNameInStartMenu, set the Value Data to 0, click OK, close the Registry
Editor and reboot.
You can also create a NoUserNameInStartMenu value and set it 0, if you want.
Open the Registry Editor...
Start | Run | Type: regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Look in the right hand pane for a value called Disablemsconfig. If the
value exists, double click on Disablemsconfig and set the value to 0. If it
doesn't exist, right click in the right pane and point to New and click
DWORD value. Name it Disablemsconfig and leave it set at 0.
You can do the same thing in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Start | Run | Type: Regedit | Click OK |
Navigate to >>
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
and/or
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Value Name: NoUserNameInStartMenu
Data Type: REG_DWORD
Value Data: 0 or 1
0 = display username and picture
1 = hide username and picture
Create a new DWORD value, or modify the existing value, called
NoUserNameInStartMenu and edit the value according to the settings above.
Close the Registry Editor, you may need to restart or log out of Windows for
the change to take effect.
If XP Pro, you can use Group Policy...
Start | Run | Type: gpedit.msc | Click OK |
Local Computer Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\
Start Menu and Taskbar\
Remove user name from Start Menu
Set Remove user name from Start Menu to Not Configured or Disabled.

Hope this helps. Let us know.
