Hello

I have a user account has been consistently getting locked
out although he was not attempting multiple logins nor did
he forget his password.

After I unlock his account, once he continues to use it
for a day or two it gets locked out again. This has been
going on for the past 2 weeks. The symptom is his printer.
When his printer is not connectable; only then this
locking problem occurs, this is the only thing traceable
so far. I've tried removing all printers and re-creating
them many times but still the same result.

What is the possible cause of this problem?

Need help urgently

Thanks in advance

Hi Andy. Try enabling auditing for account log on on the domain
controller, and on his machine enable account log on and log on events. Look
at the failed audits for Event Id clues. Go to provided link for some
excellent tools including the alockout.dll file that you can place on his
computer that will create a debug log for the lockouts. Be sure to read
through the white paper link in the Overview section about how to
troubleshoot account lockouts and Event ID explainations. --- Steve MVP

Hmm

Hmmm, interesting. Sounds like it could be a number of different things. I think it could be trying to connect to another printer when defeault printer is not available and that printer connection has wrong credentials. It’s hard to give you a whole lot of direction without more info, but you may want to take a look at a third-party account lockout tool. It may be worth your while. I know it was for me just because all the time I spent trying to figure out why users kept getting locked out could have been spent being productive, so purchasing the Netwrix Account Lockout manager[MF4] actually saved us time and money.

Obviously, there are a number of tools that you can use (for example, free Microsoft account lockout tools), and you may not need any, but if the problem continues, you should probably consider something like the Netwrix tool. That was really easy to install. Now, we get real-time alerts of all lockouts and suggestions how to fix lockouts (e.g. change drive mapping credentials), automated troubleshooting and quick solutions so we don’t
time on this routine work.
