Hi All

Windows 2000 Server AD SP4.
Client Windows 2000 pro SP4.

I deleted a user account who left for maternity leave
When she returned. When she returned, I created a new
user local account for her. Now it takes 20mns for her
profile to download. I thought at first that the problem
was in the Windows 2000 pro so I reinstalled it. The
same thing happened. With another new user local account
there was no problem. It appears that the previous
account is still active maybe somewhere in the AD. How
can I get rid of it completely so that it would not
interfere with the new account ?

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for posting!

From the problem description, please help me to confirm some information on
your side.

"Now it takes 20mns for her profile to download"

Do you apply roaming profile on the Windows 2000 server for domain users?

If so, I would like to provide you with the following suggestion for your
reference:

1. Temporarily disable roaming profile on the AD for the new user account
and logon with the new user account. Can the issue be reproduced?

2. If there is no problem, please copy the new user's profile in Document
and settings forder to the AD and recreate a new roaming profile for the
new account.

Note: please backup the old roaming profile for the user account.

If there is anything that is unclear, please feel free to let me know.

Thanks & Regards,

Jason Tan

Hi Jason and thank you for your reply.

Do you apply roaming profile on the Windows 2000 server
for domain users?

Yes. Except for the two users who are remotely
connecting to the network through VPN. As I said, the
woman who came back from her maternity leave cannot login
until after 20 mns waiting for her LOCAL profile to
download. After it downloads, many things are not
working properly. She had roaming profile before she
left her. With the second user who also has local
profile, it works fine.

Temporarily disable roaming profile on the AD for the new
user account and logon with the new user account. Can the
issue be reproduced?

From the AD, I deleted the account and created another
one. I used Delprof tool. I formatted the user's
machine and reinstalled the system. The problem is still
the same. In the Event log of the user machine there is
an error ID 1000:

Source:Userenv
Type:Error
ID:1000
Authority NT\SYSTEM
Description:Windows could not obtained the DC name for
your computers network.
Value returned (59)

For your information I have 4 servers in the domaine.

I had created an account with different name and a local
profile for the user so that she can carry on working.
But this is not something I am happy with or she is happy
with.

Many thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your patient and understanding!

Due to sick I am really sorry for my delay. I have read your detailed
updates. I understand that you have created a new account for the user to
carry on working as a workaround. However, the new account is of a
different name with her original one which is not good solution for you. So
far I would like to double confirm whether you need our further assistance.
Considering your satisfaction, we are always glad to be of assistance. If
so, we can go further.

Based on my further research, since the user account has related to SID
information which is unique, even if you have recreated a new account which
has the same name as the original one, it cannot has the same SID
information with the original one. So, in some sense, the new account is
totally different one with the original one.

From the above information, we can recreate a new roaming profile for the
new account. To use the original roaming profile, we can copy the original
roaming profile to the new one. Please let me provide you with the
following steps for your reference:

1. Recreating the new account (ABC) which is the same name as the original
one in AD.

2. Temporarily disable the roaming function of this account.

3. Copy the roaming profile to the local machine.

4. Login domain with the new account and it will recreate a fold in
%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings which could be ABC. 000

5. Copy the original roaming profile to the ABC.

Thanks for your time. I hope my information helps. If there is anything
that is unclear, please feel free to let me know.
