User account and e-mails

I am using XP Home Edition. ISP is AOL. Every time I turn on my system and
the User Accounts icons appear I have a message saying that I have an e-mail
waiting. When I right click on it, it is in fact my girlfriends e-mail
account. However niether of us can find a new message in either of our email
accounts. She is with hotmail, I with Yahoo.
Is there any way of simply separating the operating system and email
accounts. i.e. you only get email information when you actively logon to your
account.

Please help because it is doing my nut.

You can use TweakUI to stop the message from appearing.

To disable the unread mail notification in welcome screen, just download and
run the following file:

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/Unread_Mails_Disable.reg

Download the file and double click the file.

This should resolve the issue.
