Ctrl-Alt-Del twice at the login page, then login as Administrator. When you
create a new user with Admin rioghts the original Administrator account is
hidden.

This answer valid for XP Pro only.

For XP Home boot into safe mode. The administrator account is now shown on
the Welcome screen.

Yes, we know that. The advice you were given is correct.

Oops - just re-read the bit where you said you'd disabled it.

If that's the only problem (and I don't recommend doing this, by the way -
leave it enabled, with a good password) just log in as your normal new admin
user, and go to the same place you went to create the new user, and
re-enable the built-in administrator. If you can't figure it out, go to
control panel | admin tools | computer management | local users & groups |
users.

Yep. But if the OP was actually using the administrator login in normal mode
to begin with (when setting up the other account), then they couldn't have
been using Home. :-)

I tried to enable the administrator user using normal user login the error
shows "Access is denied"

When i tried this "Ctrl-Alt-Del twice at the login page, then login as
Administrator." the error shows "The Administrator account is disable,
Contact Administrator."

Please.......................... Help.........................

Have you tried re-activating the Administrator account by typing the
following in a command prompt window?

net user Administrator /Active:yes

It shows "Access is denied"

Go to http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/ . There you will find
zip files that will let you create boot floppy disks or bootable CDs
that will enable you to reset any system password on an NT class
operating system. This utility will also let you re-activate disabled
accounts.

If the above doesn't work you may want to try a repair install

Let me point out that asking a stranger in a newsgroup to mail you a
file is an exceedingly dangerous thing to do. We live in risky times,
there are weird people out there, and there's no guarantee that the
file you receive will not be malware.

I don't mean to accuse anybody here of anything, but you never know
who you're dealing with. You don't even know that the person who mails
you the file is the person you requested it from, regardless of how he
signs his name.

So even though I know *I* wouldn't mail you a bad file, I would
recommend that you not accept and run a file, even if it purported to
come from Ken Blake.

For XP Pro.

For XP Home, one has to go to Safe Mode.

Yep. But if the OP was actually using the administrator login in normal
mode to begin with (when setting up the other account), then they couldn't
have been using Home. :-)

Erm, am I not right in saying that in XP Home, if no other account is set
up, then the Administrator account is what you get by default?

I don't use Home, but no, I think that's incorrect. AFAIK you *can't* log in
using Administrator when you're using Home unless you're in Safe Mode.

I'm right. If no other account exists, XP (all versions) start up in the
Administrator account by default (offereing it on the welcome screen if a
password is set). It is only if another account exists does the
administrator account become les accessable (safe mode only on XP home and
vial ctrl+alt+del twice in XP Pro).

I don't have Home so I can't test this theory, but sure, why not.
It is only if another account exists

Let's split the points. When you initially install Home or Pro, you have to
set up another account. You can't proceed otherwise. And in Home, the only
way you could remove your sole (or sole remaining) custom-created account is
by logging in as the administrator ...which you would have to do in safe
mode.

So, you'd have to do a lot of juggling to get to that point, and if you knew
enough to go into safe mode, you'd know you had home & you'd probably
mention it (or not need to post at all).

Pax :-)

I take your point, but there has been a number of posts recently (not
necessarily in this newsgroup) from people wondering why their administrator
account has mysteriously disappeared after they had created another account.
I have not personally installed XP without creating another account, but the
number of posts suggests that it is at least possible.
