UseNetSpider: search free nntp servers

Looks like a scamming attempt... the webpage contains only a (masked) banner

I tried with

Opera 7.5:
(quick preferences: "refuse pop-up windows", no java, no java script,
no plugins, identify as mozill, opera or IE)
I allways get the page. With javascript I get the Ads of the free
webhoster as well.

IE 6 as it is bundled with win2003 (I don't know the exact standard
configuration, but I think all these silly add ons are normally turned
off in the server version, MS knows, why :-) ):
all visible, no banners (no javascript)

Netscape 4.7:
nothing visible, except the two banners

when I look at the source in Opera I can see that the webhoster has
inserted the banner lines:

<!-- start XPanel header -->
<center>
<script LANGUAGE="JavaScript"
src="http://www.agreatserver.com/header.js">
</script></center>
<!-- end XPanel header -->

Not a bad product at all (by the way, you may have to bypass
Proxomitron if having problems viewing the home page).

A few features that need to be looked at:

1. Ability to add more than one server to download headers from.

2. Ability to save servers & various newsgroups, both for downloading
& testing - at the moment it goes back to the server the program was
"shipped" with.

3. Split the header downloading & testing functions to allow them to
be run individually if preferred by the user.

4. Above will also allow the user to not have to wait until all
headers have downloaded before test can be run (really needed if on a
dial-up!!).

5. Possibly a more detailed report, say showing number of available
articles in groups on successfully tested servers - saves downloading
an entire list of groups from a server into your newsreader only to
find that the group you want contains 3 articles.

6. A help file, even if it's just a text document.

I would be very happy to use UseNetSpider, and I think that with a
bit of elbow grease it can become a must have, but at the moment I'll
stick with my NewsHunter4 (NH4) - also freeware, which I've been
using for over 2 years. It's getting on a bit in age (designed for
Win '95, so XP users may have to run it under '95 emulation), but it
still does the job for me.

You might want to give NH4 a try just to see what features it has
that you can incorporate into your program. You can get it from my
site, Scott's Freeware Goodies at
http://www.comcen.com.au/~scottford/_sgt/m2m2_1.htm .

Please keep these groups updated whenever you make modifications or
add new features - I think UseNetSpider can go a long way in
usefulness.

Best Wishes,

Scott
