I am hoping someone can help me...

A couple of years ago while using my computer my daughter tripped over the
cord and unplugged my computer.

Since then, I have not been able to use any of the CD rom programs that are
installed on my computer. (For instance, Reader Rabbit, Curious George
abc's, ect.)

I CAN still play cd's and dvd's but when I click on a program to try and use
it, now I get this message:

16 bit Windows Subsystem:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT> The system file is not suitable for
running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications.

I still have microsoft windows...and have searched all over my comp to
figure out a way to solve the problem.

Any suggestions would be REALLY appreciated!

Do a search of the windows folder for autoexec.nt, there should be two
copies. One in the folder you have listed and one in c:\windows\repair
folder. If there is only one copy in the "repair" folder then copy it to the
"system32" folder and try again.

Have you really been putting up with this for a couple of years.

Anyway hope that cures it

By the way, I am sure that I have this thread under the wrong topic and I
apologize for that, wasn't sure where to post it since I am not aware of what
the actual problem is.

windows folders....where on my comp do I locate that? My computer?

thanks

hi carey I am at this step: I don't know where to find the "windows
explorer". any info would be appreciated, and thank you so much for your
help.

oops not sure I pasted this: this is the step I am at

Start Windows Explorer. Locate the Config.nt file, r

If you open "my computer" and right click on the "C" drive (assuming that is
your main drive) you should see a search command. Move down and left click
"search" then type in the name of the file, in this case autoexec.nt and
click the search button.

You should see the file come up in two locations. (it may take a while) If
there is only one location and it is C:\windows\repair then copy that file
to the C:\windows folder. (again you will need to navigate via "my
computer")
