I just assembled a pc, different brand & updated version h-ware, from
present one I assembled and used exclusively for last 9 years. Using legit
Win XP Pro, Academic version, as wife is hs-math teacher--version 2000 XP
Pro with SP3 and all updates. Not re-installed in over 5 years!
I will replace hard drive in old pc with a blank one, destroy old one,
and sell pc with no OS. Can I use my legit XP Pro on my new pc without WGA
nags I have seen on others' illegitimate Windows? Any particulars to avoid
or be aware of? Or do I merely install and activate, using original XP Pro
disk and numbers? And should I expect questions from MS which should be
answered with "specifically-correct" replies?
New pc has no additional hardware, just updated versions; i.e., sata vs
ide drives; 500gb vs.100gb h/d; upgraded video, ram.
Thanks to all for help and tips. s

Your old activation code is only good for your old machine. Just install XP
clean on the new one and activate it. If XP has been activated 3 times
already you will need to call to activate. You will get an automated
machine. Answer the questions obviously: Is this the only computer that xp
is installed on: yes. etc. etc. Don't worry about the old PC.

Thanks. Your answers are what I was hoping for. s
