Use of files

These files "INSTALLD.CMD and NTDETECT.COM" are mentioned on
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000465.htm to which I went via a
Goggle search on NTDETECT.COM which I found on my hard drive in a folder
which should have held only text files. I wondered what it was; hence
the search. I am not sufficiently computer knowledgeable for the page
referenced to make any sense to me. Can someone tell me it is OK to
delete it, or where to place it if I actually need it (and for what
purpose do I need it).

My OS is Windows XP Home Edition, updated with Service Pack 2 . My
computer is a Compaq Presario 8000 with Athlon 2000+ processor. It is
approximately 3 years old. I bought it just when HP purchased Compaq.
