Use drive label "B" for hard drive?

I understand that with XP, drive labels "A" and "B" are reserved for removable drives. I'm wondering if there's any way to override that setting (with a registry tweak, perhaps) so that I can use "B" for a hard drive. It's nothing essential- it would just be nice to use "B" for my "back-up" drive

Cheers

You are correct... Drive labels "A" and "B" are reserved
for removable drives. Not to be used for a fixed drive.

You could do the following:

SUBST B: D:\

(the drive will respond to both letters)

-replace the D: with your HD's current letter, or even the D:\ with a
subdirectory name (see SUBST /? for help)

Just a thought... what's going to happen to A: and B: in the future? There
are some systems coming without floppy drives now... in the future will we
be able to use those drive letters for other drives???
