USB2 Question

Not certain what you are asking; you can hit the switch to turn it on as you
press the 'ON' button of your PC, just as you would turn on your monitor and
it will boot with everything else, (if that's what you mean) I had 2
different external USB2.0 enclosures; 1 would shut-down when i shut down
everything else, the one i am using now will not, i have to turn the switch
to the OFF position after everything shuts down (don't know why that is but
it doesn't hurt anything)

Will try to clarify the situation
At boot-up the usb drive is not mounted until the desktop is loaded.
I am not able to use diagnostic disk at bootup because the drive is not yet
mounted.

You won't be able to *boot* from the your USB HDD, don't think there are
(m)any computers able to do that yet. The best you can do is boot to DOS or
some other OS that has USB drivers to make your HDD accessible.

If you want to boot from DOS and you know how to mess around with the DOS
filesytem you can try - http://bootdisk.com/usb.htm
