Hi,
I notice this topic has come up before so I hope someone could help. I
have also posted recently about problems with my onboard LAN card and
now I'm having issues with my USB.
I have Win XP SP1 installed as well as the drivers from the CD that
came with the motherboard. There were seperate drivers for USB for
some reason. I installed those drivers and have purchased an external
hard driver chassis that connect via USB2. It works fine on my PC at
work which is a different motherboard but also Win XP SP1. But at home
when I connect the USB cable it says that hardware failed to install
and in device manager it is listed as "Unknown device".
On the previous thread it was mentioned that perhaps one would not
need the seperate drivers and the ones from SP1 would be fine. Someone
else mentioned they had solved the problem by reinstalling and I
assume they meant they reinstalled Win XP and SP1 but not the USB2
drivers provided on the CD? I would reluctantly do this as I already
have a lot of software installed and it took me a while to get the
system to the current state. Is there an alternative method?
