ALi Corporation ALi PCI to USB 2.0 Enhanced Host
Controller

(Mentor)

I bought this USB2 port host card, good for windows98 up
to XP, so I followed the hardware installation wizard
instructions and inserted the software. The retailer has
just informed me that XP already had the drivers and I
should not have used the
software that came with the PCI card.

Is it true that I will not be able to upgrade to USB2.0
because of this, there must be a better solution, and I
don't understand how the drivers could be damaged
permanently.

If so how can I get round the problem?

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, Mike.

I don't know that particular card, but my guess is that you should do 3
things, in order:

1. Remove the card from your computer.

2. Remove the drivers, probably from Device Manager, but possibly from
Add/Remove Programs.

3. Plug in the card and boot up, to allow WinXP to detect the card and
install its own drivers.

You will need to shut down, of course, before removing and reinstalling the
card.
