I have SP1a installed on my Presario 2700 running XP Pro. A friend of
mine gave me a USB2.0 card to use on my laptop that only has 2 USB1.0
ports. The only other item he gave me was the driver CD. It has alot
of different drivers on it for other products. Anyway, after
inserting the card into my laptop, windows detects the new USB2.0 card
and everything seems fine. When I connect my external HD to the card
my system freezes and locks. I believe that there has to be some kind
of driver conflict, I just cant prove it. I'm at my wits end...can
some1 help? My friend said that it was a generic card. The only
thing on the face is ST Lab USB 2.0.

Sounds like that new USB card uses shared Interrupt, a HD is very time
sensitive, I don't think you can use that new USB card. You gonna have to
unuse it.

download the driver update for the usb2.0 for winXP pro
from microsoft site. This may not help but you can give it
a try.
