I recently purchased a new USB hub using 2.2. My current system doesn't
support its speed but does allow its use. Is it possible to upgrade just
the USB?

You'd need to install a pci USB 2.0 card if your current motherboard does
not support usb 2.0 itself. Some of these cards also offer firewire
capabilities, combining both standards into a single card.
