Can anyone tell me the difference between USB 1.0 and USB
2.0. It appears my AMD processor is unable to power my
new Broadband modem and it has been suggested that I use
a USB hub with its own power supply. I have found a
website which sells both (both being compatible with
Windows XP), only I'm not sure what the differnce is or
which is most likely to work with my modem. I would
appreciate any help with this. Thanks

This seems reasonable. Devices can consume more power in high speed USB2 mode than in USB1 mode.
But doesn't your USB2 modem come with a power supply of it's own?

No. The modem came free from my Service Provider. It has
one USB cable to connect to the computer and one phone
cable to connect to the filter for the phone socket.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm not particularly clued up
when it comes to computers so am not entirely sure what a
PCI card is. Is this very expensive and how easy is it to
install? (bearing in mind my ability is quite limited)

Then call the service provider, they should be able to recommend a hub.
A hub is preferable because you can connect it yourself.
To install PCI card you need to open your computer, that can
among other troubles, void your warranty.

Thanks for all your help. I will ring them straight away.

I haven't checked the prices, they shouldn't cost much. A PCI card goes into
a slot inside the computer and is not a real big deal to install. If your PC
is still under warrantee, check with the Mfr. before opening the case. The
card should come with instructions for installation.
