XP only recognizes USB devices (camera, telephone,
scanner) when it starts up. If the device is connected
after startup it's not recognized and stated as not
connected. Does anyone have solution?

des unplugging and pluggin back in the device make windows pick it up again?

get updated USB drivers for your mobo..?

Based on 'sketchy' information you provided. IF you are talking about USB2.0
in XP, you should first download SP1. Secondly; check to see if you have an
'enhanced USB controller' in Device Maqnager. Do not use any driver or stuff
that came on the Instlal CD you may have gotten with the devices unless XP
requests them..
You can try this; go into your System folder , Devices and DELETE all
entries under USB devices, they might be 'root hub' or 'controller', it
ddoesn't matter. One by one, delete them until nothing shows-up under that
listing except for the USB listing itself... Leave the devices hooked-up,
reboot and hope that XP will recognize the hardware (USB card) and the other
stuff connected to it...
I had major USB2.0 problems with an external HD and some other flash memory
devices and it turned out to be the USB2 PCI card, believe it or not.. Since
you did not say if you had an add-in PCI card or an external hub, or mobo
connected USB ports, this is the best i can do for you..
