I have a 3 year old system - Gigabyte MB (GA7IX), AMD XT700, 256K. MB has
2
USB ports in rear. I have 8 USB devices to use, Palm Sync, Printer,
Scanner, and more. WindowsXP Home installed. I have tried to use a USB 4
port powered hub and also a USB 4 port pci card but all I get is trouble.
PC hangs, fails to boot, blue screens, etc.

I may need to add more detail but this starts the dialogue. What can I do
to
get these 2 add ons to work?

Jack, what's the Wattage rating on your Power Supply? Did you install
all the WinXP drivers for your USB devices.
What does the Device Manager look like. Any yellow marks next to USB
entries?

300 watt PS.
All devices went thru install process - XP sees and finds them when plugged
in just fine.
No yellow in DM.

Install your 4-Port USB card in slot #2 or 5 of your computer.
Enter BIOS and "Disable" the on-board USB channels (All).
Boot up, Device Manager, View, Click "Show Hidden Dev"
Expand USB category - All entries grayed out - Uninstall
Then plug your powered HUB into one of the 4 ports on the
add in PCI card. You might need to Hub out another powered
Hub, but using the PCI and not the motherboard channels may
avoid the problems you describe.
