Well you CAN use USB with a TRV-460. I bought this Sony
Dig8 which is back compatible with my old 8mm. You can USB
capture via USB, capture live via USB streaming and use as
a web cam. Tested it all. It works.

BUT. . . I bought the firewire card which came with cable
from amazon (~$30). Fast and high quality. To maintain
integrity of the orignal video, take everyones advice and
buy the firewire card!!

I have a Sony hi-8 digital handycam. It works great, however I'd advise you
to get a firewire card, which isn't expensive at all (the firewire cable is
what gets expensive) and is easy to install yourself. Using USB is fine if
you only intend to post videos over the internet, or only watch your videos
in a small window on your computer. A firewire will allow you to control
the camera operation from the computer, which is nice... USB will not.
