New computer,xp home system, will not recognize digital
camera. Will recognize memory card but would like to use
usb function.Camera and usb cord worked fine on previous
but not on new,JVC driver has been downloaded.I am
stumped--Thanx

Hi John,

In Windows XP, plugging your camera into the USB port should open an
AutoPlay dialog, and allow you select from a list of applications which one
you want to open. Normally I use the Windows XP Scanner and Camera Wizard.
This is normal behavior in Windows XP.

What were you expecting when you plugged your camera into the USB port?
What did it do before you were you using Windows XP? Did it open a specific
application?

Perhaps we can figure out what's going on. You have a JVC camera? What
model is it?

Please give me some more info and I will see what I can do to assist you!

Thanks!

question "what i wanted to do with these pics?self

to proceed could be dangerous to my system.I only got
this warning from 1 of three ports,from 2 Nothing,,nada.
I switched from built in mouse to external which works in
any of the three sooooooooo==Camera is GRDVL520U.Later

John,

The error you're seeing is that the driver for you JVC camera has not been
digitally signed by Microsoft. What this means is that our hardware quality
labs haven't certified this driver as being designed for Windows XP. In most
cases this is fine. If you say okay to these messages and allow the JVC
driver for your camera to be installed it should work as expected. Windows
will create a Restore Point for you in the event that this driver does
effect your system negatively. You can always use System Restore to set your
computer back to where it was before you installed this driver. (Start>All
Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore).

Be sure to install the latest software from JVC, they have an update to
their software so it works successfully under Windows XP.

http://www.jvc.com/custrel/software_files/520.exe

There is an update available for the Picture Navigator software to work with
Windows 2000 and XP at http://www.jvcservice.com/custrel/download.htm
(When executing the update be sure to have Picture Navigator closed).
The following versions of software and drivers will work with Windows XP.

a.. Picture Navigator 2.1.5.1
b.. JLIP Video Capture 3.1
c.. JLIP Video Producer 2.0
d.. JLIP Video Player 1.0
e.. Card Navigator 1.0
f.. USB Drivers
g.. Video Navigator

Thanks for the information John. More questions for you, if you don't mind.
:-)

How many USB devices are you running on your system? I've found with some
machines that you start to lose voltage with the more USB devices plugged
in. My example was the trying to run a mouse and a smartphone cradle off
the USB keyboard plugs. The solution is simple, a powered USB hub. It sort
of works like a signal repeater, making sure there is no drop in voltage to
affect your USB devices.

Is your new system another OEM (like Compaq, Dell, etc) or a custom built
system that either you or a computer shop put together? Lots of custom
systems that come out have updates available on the motherboard
manufacturer's web sites, both BIOS and system drivers. It's a good idea to
update those. OEM's have update packages you can download and install that
address the same issue. Make sure everything is updated.

Windows Update offers a USB driver update for XP SP1. Go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and run a scan for updates. After the
scan is complete, click on Windows XP in the left hand pane. Windows XP
updates will appear on the left hand pane. Select the update "Recommended
Update for Windows XP SP1 (KB822603)" from the list and install it.

If you don't mind trying out my suggestions and getting back to me with the
results, I'd appreciate it. If these suggestions don't work, we can explore
more solutions.
