Steven

I just bought a USB to USB cord, to link files from my
laptop onto my desktop, and I can't get it to work. I
have not installed any software, but I pressumed with
Windows XP on both machines it would be able to recognize
the connection and self configure. Can someone please
tell me what I am doing wrong and if I need any software.

Thanks very much.

To connect computer to computer to transfer files, you
will need to use an RJ45 cross connect cable run between
the NIC cards and set the two machines up on a
workgroup. That is the only way I know of to do it.

You might want to go back and read the instructions that came with the
USB-2-USB cable. Mostly, you do need to install some software for these
devices to work. (at least I've had to with those that I've tried.) I've
also never found 2 different brands of these that work the same. The good
news is: they do work.
