usb to serial port adapter

my new laptop does not have a serial port. on my desttop
I use two devices that are hooked up to serial port. I
would like to use them on the laptop at times, (Question)
is there an adapter from usb to serial?? I checked with my
computer stores, one said yes but they don't always work,
the other said yes but you need to down load something so
they will work. I need some help. as I'm sure that other
people must have run into this. please

Your best strategy for this task would be to first contact the manufacturers
of the devices that you want to use a Serial to USB adapter with and get
their recommendations. Make sure that the adapter is XP compatible and
includes any necessary XP drivers. There are tons of these adapters on the
market and I'm sure you will find one that will work.
