I've been looking for some time if there exists a converter between USB
(2.0) and FIREWIRE interfaces. I havn't found anything, but I'm not sure
that nobody has tried to produce such a device. Has someone some information
about this?
Thanks.

Why not just buy a firewire card? It will work MUCH better than USB to FW
converter.

Also, most FW devices can be had in a USB version and many times it's
cheaper.

Personally, I'd rather have FW than USB, but the market doesn't seem to bear
that out (like SCSI is better than IDE)

I kind of doubt it exists. For one thing, it'd likely cost a lot more
than simply buying and installing a Firewire card - I can get a IEEE
1394 PCI card for US$14-18, and a PCMCIA Cardbus card for US$16-25 at,
for example, Newegg.com (in the US).... My experience with USB 2.0 is
that it's quite a bit slower than Firewire - I don't know whether it
could handle a true 400Mbps rate.

Of course, I don't know what's available wherever you are (Italy?),
but I'm assuming you could get similar pricing.....

Good luck in your search!
