USB thumb drive won't work!

I recently bought a dell usb thumb drive to use on my hp pavilion 522n w/ windows xp. The computer detects the device, but it always comes up with a "found new hardware wizard", which is supposed to find the driver for the "new hardware". However, this "wizard" doesn't help and says that it has not found a driver. Anyways, the thumb drive is supposed to work automatically and it does just that on any computer except my own. Is there some patch that I need to download, could this be a BIOS problem, or what is the problem?

Try this if you are getting error code 28, it worked for me.

Subject: Problems With USB Card Readers

The solution to this problem involves using the registry editor (regedit)
with which you should be comfortable or you can cause damage to your system.

While running regedit, conduct a search for the string "LowerFilters". Under
the heading 'Disk Drives" (class "DiskDrive") you will likely find a key
with the name "LowerFilters" with either a null entry or a binary entry.
Click on this value, and either delete the entry or rename the key to
";LowerFilters" to preserve the entry to allow it to be restored at a later
point in time.

You will have to repeat the procedure to correct additional registry entries
if you have more than one user configured for access on your computer
(multiple user configurations).

Hope it works,
Martyn
