Could some one help me out with my USB problem.
I plug in my memory stick into the USB port and it shows up in my computer
and then disappears again. I cannot find it anywhere. It shows up again when
I unplug it and plug it in again but disappears again before I can click it.
It says I have a difference in ports from 2.0 to 1.1
They always worked before i even bought a new stick in case the other was
corrupted, no difference.
Thanks for any help
Bruce

Does the memory stick require a USB 2.0 port to communicate with the
operating system? USB 1.0 or 1.1 would be incredibly slow.

It says it is slower but it is 1.1 and not noticeable.
Maybe that's why it is not showing up?

The speed of USB 1.1 should be bearable.

I've seen USB mass storage devices not show up if it
decides to use the same drive letter as one already in
use - perhaps by a network drive.

Try this: Right click My Computer and select Manage. Click
on Disk Management. Does your USB disk show up here (as a
removeable disk)? If so, what drive letter is it using? To
change the drive letter, right click the device here and
select "Change Drive Letters and Paths". I would advise
selecting a drive letter that is past G: and not a network
drice on your machine.

To the OP (Bruce), when you say "cannot find it anywhere"
does that include looking at the drives listed in My
Computer?

Yes My Computer too. In Device Manager it list Verbatim USB Drive USB
device.
Is that the same or is that the 4 port USB 2.0 card I installed a couple of
weeks ago. Maybe that card has something to do with it.

If device manager shows it, try this...right click on My
Computer and select Manage and look for Storage/disk
management. You need to have the drive plugged in and then
partition and format it and assign a letter and name.

WWWWWHHHHHHHOOOOOOAAAAAAAA

don't format it just yet, I have had this same thing happen when the memory
stick is trying to use a drive letter that is already in use from a Camera,
IPOD, Network drive, etc., follow Jim's instructions below except before
partition and format, just try to assign it a drive letter (or possibly a
new drive letter).
