USB is not designed for communications between hosts, only between a
host and its peripherals. You can use USB to connect 2 hosts but you
must NOT use a USB cable with the same A-style connector on each end as
I read that can cause the power supplies to burn out (actually they
won't regulate well since you are connecting them parallel but it
possible that current from one power supply could backflow into the
other). You need a USB Bridge, like
http://www.sewelld.com/UsbCable.asp. However, I would assume that a
driver or software is needed to emulate or define a connectoid that you
could then select in HyperTerminal or any other communications
applications so you can specify to use that connection. Sewell
obviously wants you to use their FastLynx software.

The different solution would be to network the hosts using Ethernet
instead of USB. That's how most folks get hosts connected. Do neither
of your hosts have a network card? If they have network cards, you can
either connect them using patch cables to a hub, switch, or router, or
you can connect the 2 hosts directly using a cross-over cable.
