USB stopped working?

I'm running Win2k SP4 with the latest updates. Yesterday I came in and the
login screen was up. We had a storm roll through while I was gone, which
was about 3 hours. I can't remember if I had rebooted the machine before I
left, after applying a windows update. The storm may have clicked off the
power and caused the machine to shut down.

Now non of my USB peripherals work. I checked the BIOS and USB is enabled.
I removed all of the Windows Hotfixes, IE updates, and Outlook Express
updates. Still no USB. There aren't any exclamation signs in device
manager. In device manager under USB, I have two USB root hubs, and two VIA
USB Universal Host Controller.

Any suggestions if this is a software problem or if the USB hardware has
gone out? How can I trouble shoot to determine what may be wrong?

Thanks,
Brett

Brett, try updating your USB 2.0 drivers from Microsofts
site. There is a note under service pack4 and USB 2.0
drivers. My machine was blue screening with a usb driver
problem until I updated mine. Dan

I don't see any download links on Microsoft's website pertaining to USB 2.0
and Windows 2000. Do you have a URL to the download page?

I spoke with a computer tech today. He thinks the USB hardware has been
fried by lightening via a USB DSL modem that was connected to the computer.
