I have a remote network share, mapped under G: on my Windows XP. When I
insert my USB stick, it mounts under B: in FDD-mode, but in HDD-mode it
mounts as G:. Therefore I cannot see it. How can this be solved?

Give it a different letter in Disk Management. (R-click My Computer,
Manage, Storage, Disk management)

I would certainly do, but what I am looking for is a general solution of
the problem. It is annoying to have to do that every time you insert it
into another computer.

The problem is that network drives were not assigned letters in
accordance with the standard Windows uses. Specifically, Network drives
Z->A, Local drives A->Z. If you don't manually assign the "local drive"
letters to the network drive, the "problem" doesn't occur till you run
out of drive letters. So the work around is not assign the local drive
letters to network drive, or let "auto" handle both network and local
drive assignments.

I always mount network drives from z: backward since the system likes to
assing things form a: forward.

Thanks to everybody who answered. I like to have a drive letter with
some meaning when it points to a particlular network share (e.g. G: ->
\\SERVER\GHOST), but it seems taht in this case I will have to live with
this inconvenience.
