My newly installed Vista software will not recognise any flash drives and
says that it doesn't have the drivers OR that the drivers simply will not
install.

I have been told that it may be because a very old flash drive I used may
have installed some dodgy drivers which corrupted the ones in Vista.

I tried to do a system restore to when the computer was set up (ie before I
used the flash drive) However the restore files don't go back that far. Is
there any way of going back any further or will I have to re-install all of
the OS?

Go to the Flash Drive's manufacturer's site, and see if they are Vista
compatible.

When you plug in a Flash Drive, the flash drive does not pull drivers out of
its back pocket and install them in vista!

Vista looks to see if vista has the drivers for it!
If not, it will ask for a CD containing Drivers for them, or search the NET
for them

That was the mos tobvious, and first thing I did. Unortunately with no joy.
Have tried a variety of flash drives which work on other peoples vista and I
get the same problem.
