USB resets itself

Hello,

I'm having a problem with a WinXP Professional (german) installation.
The USB bus appears to reset itself regularly; the outcome is that the
connection to the digital camera is lost, the scanner resets itself
(lamp turns off, on again, etc.), and the printer jobs go nuts.

The devices that seem to be affected are a Lexmark printer, a Kodak
EasyShare camera and an Epson scanner. They are all connected to a USB
hub. The DSL modem is not affected, probably since it's not connected
to the hub but to a separate USB port.
The problem only occurs when the Kodak camera is connected; the camera
and the scanner have the newest drivers from the vendors' sites, the
printer doesn't seem to have any effect since the same things happens
whether it's connected or not.

Anyone any ideas?

Thanks a lot

Bela

The hub may not be providing enough power to correct manage all the devices.
Have you tried a self-powered hub?

No, I don't have one available to me. But I don't think that's the
problem:
- it used to work perfectly fine under Win98 First Edition.
- when I looked over the power usage yesterday (from the Device Manager,
AFAIR), all devices used less than 5 mA - and USB can provide a total
of 500, if my memory isn't cheating on me.

Any other ideas?

Thanks a lot!

Bela
