Hi,

is it possible to exclude items from the USB removal icon in the system
tray.

At the moment I can stop the SATA2 hard disc and the motherboard
on-board WiFi

I would prefer that these don't show of a family member might
accidentally remove them when trying to eject a memory stick.

Thanks

is this a laptop? I have not seen a sata drive listed or wifi listed in
safely remove.... unless it was USB dongle or external enclosures in a
desktop. laptops have many peripherals listed sometimes. As far as deleting
them or stopping them from being shown, this is dependent on the driver(USB
wise anyway). There maybe a registry hack out there, but I don't hack up the
foundation of my house.

Tell them to wait a minute after the thing is done and then unplug it.
the icon isn't needed.

It is a band new tower system.

ASUS M2N VM DH AM2, MOTHERBOARD
AMD Athlon 64 4200 x2 Socket AM2
Dual Core Processor
CORSAIR 2X 1GB DDR2 RAM 6400
SATA 2 320GB HARD DRIVE

I have never seen sata or WiFi listed before (except a USB WiFi dongle)

the WiFi is built onto the motherboard.

Strange.

I don't want them to even try to remove the hard disc!

I had this with my Asus board too, the SATA hard drive showed up as a
removable item in the system tray even though it was the main C drive in the
machine. I searched for a way of removing the icon and was unable to find a
way of removing the icon, although it did appear to be a frequently asked
question for quite a few people, mostly on Asus boards.

I did try to remove my C drive using the removal icon process to see what
would happen, but Windows wouldn't let me as it said it was in use and
couldn't be stopped. Its an annoying problem but I don't think anyone will
stop the hard drive accidentally, the WiFi may be another problem though.

I have just installed a printer, to a USB port, and that is now showing
in the remove screen.

Can anyone tell me if this a ASUS motherboard problem or windows.

Thanks

I saw this on a desktop when USB legacy devices was enabled in bios...i
don't think the new boards even have that setting any more

I will have a look for any USB settings that can be tweaked. Thanks.
I'll let you know.
