Brian

I am currently operating on Windows XP Professional.
Recently I went and downloaded/installed a service pack
(service pack 1 I believe) for windows XP. Upon
completion of the installation it asked me to restart my
computer. However, when I restarted it all of my USB
devices no longer function. For example, I am using an
optical mouse. When the computer first boots, the mouse
turns on (the light underneath reacts to movement).
However, once windows starts the mouse quits
functioning. Does anyone know what may have happened and
what I can do to resolve this problem? Thanks.

if that is the only changed since the system's last good working state, unstalled the the service pack, if you can't, reload the origianl copy of the registry (c:\windows\repair), finally reinstall xp, make sure backup your data becasue you will need to reinstall the xp

Hi

Shutdown the machine and disconnect all USB devices
Try to boot in safe mode by pressing F8 key and logon as administrator
Go to device manager, double click the Universal Serial Bus controller
Right click on the USB Open Host controller, select uninstall, click apply and OK then reboot
Windows should find the USB controller and re-install the drivers
Re-connect the USB devices one at each time
Check to ensure it works properly before connecting the other USB devices

Note: you may need to update the USB mouse drivers, search the mouse manufacturer's website for details

Hope it helps

Pete
