Problem: I have been using a USB keyboard and mouse, now I cannot get
the machine to recognize the PS/2 keyboard or mouse. It simply waits
at the login until I connect the usb keyboard. I have tried
uninstalling the mouse and/or keyboard driver in device mgr (but cant
shut down properly once I remove keyboard driver!).

It is a shuttle xpc with Win2K installed. All hardware is MS.

Help! Any ideas? I've tried a number of things but to no avail.

TIA - Arden

I would follow these steps:

1) Hook up both PS2 and USB keyboards and mice, temporarily.
2) Make sure PS2 keyboard interface is not disabled in the system BIOS.
3) Boot up the PC to Windows normally. Log in normally with the USB
keyboard.
4) Remove the USB keyboard, and see if the PS2 now works. You'd be
surprised how often this works.
5) If not, replug the USB keyboard, or use the mouse, to run Add/Remove
Hardware from the control panel. Use automatic discovery, do not add the
keyboard manually.

Hope this gets you going...

Arden,

I would also try booting the machine up in Safe mode and see if the PS2
keyboard and mouse function there to make sure that it is not a driver
causing a problem. I have seen Symantec (Norton) antivirus software cause
this behavior.

Sorry I don't have an answer for you but I am experiencing
a similar problem with a new optical mouse. Just curious,
are your M and KB Microsoft products? Mine is, therein
may be the problem....
