Epson stylus photo 915 works fine with XP and 2000 machines but I'd like it
to work with workhorse pc with win98. The installation disk includes win98
setup.
I suspect it is a problem with 2 pipes USB and the printer driver is hooking
up with the printer's card slot pipe instead of the main printer USB pipe.
This win98 pc prints to another (one pipe) USB printer and other simple USB
devices with no problems.
UVCView USB checker picks up both pipes , BIOS setting seems to be just USB
on or off select.

Go to Epson's support site and grab the latest copy of the W98 diver
and try that. Be sure to follow the instruction procedures explicitly.
If it says let the PC recognize the printer before installing the
software, be sure to do that.

Doing that I came across this page
http://www.epson.co.uk/Printers-and-All-In-Ones/Inkjet/Epson-Stylus-Photo-91
5/Drivers-Support?target=article&extn=.html&articleId=2073

As I get "Unknown Local Port"

"Windows 98 & ME: How to remove an "Unknown Local Port" when you are unable
to print to a USB printer
RELATES TO:

* Windows 98SE, Windows ME "
until I de-corrupt the previous failed installation, via that win.ini fix,
any driver install would likely hit the same problem

You did set the printer port to USB?

If so, something XP does not like is changing the USB devices ports.

On Microsoft site there is a fix it to resolve the problem.

This is just a starter you can look for more and its simple as using the
"Fix it" see if it works.

http://support.microsoft.com/mats/hardware_device_problems

But the problem nowdays is 98/Me are no longer supported.
