when i plug in a usb device windows asks for a driver but
no drivers have been supplied
any help would be appreciated

Hi,

best thing you can do is to visit USB device manufacturer web site and
download the drivers for your device.

If it is a USB 2.0 device and you are plugging it into a standard USB it
will not work. USB 2.0 drivers are included in SP1.

While SP1 enables the use of both Firewire [IEEE1394] and USB 2.0 in Windows
XP, it does not make the Computer of such action. Computers built in the
last 2 1/2 years usually have at least USB 2.0 (sometimes Firewire)
capability built into the Motherboard or via PCI Card. Computers built
before then will have to enable either or both via a newly installed PCI
Card. Look at USB devices in the Device Manager. Either USB 2.0 and/or
Enhanced will appear by a USB 2.0 Device.
