Hello,

I'm fighting with a HP PSC1417 3 in 1 printer that my XP Pro box can't
fully install.

Scanner part of the PSC is recognized and works.

Printer part installation fails with the following messagebox :
http://emss.free.fr/informatique/Impression USB/Assistant ajout imprimante.jpg
(Translation of the message : "Port doesn't exist")

I've tried many times to deinstall/reinstall the printer drivers but the
same problem pops up again and again.
No port like USBnnn or DOT4_nnn is created while installing, so I think
there's something wrong in the usb stack regarding printing.

Any idea to fix this problem ? Machine wipe and reinstall is not an
option here ;)

One possibility is to uninstall the printer drivers and the USB port and
controller driver, reboot without the printer connected to the USB port,
wait untill the USB drivers get installed--reboot, and reinstall the printer
drivers and other software.

I've just tried :
- Deinstallation of all usb related software
- Deinstallation of all usb devices in devmgmt.msc
- Deinstallation of root hub and controller
- Reboot
- Wait for device regeneration
- Reboot
- Install drivers (Lexmark E312)
- Plug printer and, and, same as before...

No printer port is created, so it seems that usbprint is seriously broken.

Any other idea ?

Hello,

Followup to myself, sorry
No printer port is created, so it seems that usbprint is seriously broken.

The problem was a missing key in the registry :
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Monitors\USB
Monitor]
"Driver"="usbmon.dll"

And its counterparts in ControlSetxxx branches

This page is really valuable regarding printing :

Thanks to everyone.
