Hi-
Go into your system bios (this is done by hitting Del key
or F2 key when system is starting to boot - check your
manual) and look for any USB - like onboard usb support or
usb emulation and make sure it is set to enabled. Don't
assume that it is simply because your computer has usb
ports.

Also, the device I support is a input device that Windows
has to first recognize in order to get power to the
device. But in a standard Win98 install the necessary
files have to be extracted from a cab folder or the win98
CD.

Make sure you have the following files in the following
directory: C:\Windows\System32\Drivers

Hidclass.sys
Hidparse.sys
Hidusb.sys
Hidvkd.sys

You also need the file "Mouhid.vxd" in the
C:\Windows\System folder

If you don't have these files in the above directories I
am assuming you do have a Windows 98 CD. If the above
files are not in the above specified directory you can
copy them from the Windows 98 CD. You may have to do a
FIND on the folder "BASE5" and point to the CD. The above
files are in this folder. Note: the mouhid.vxd may be in
the Base6 folder.

Once these files are in place if the new hardware wizard
does not come up restart your computer.

When the new hardware wizard does come up you want Windows
to do a search for the best driver for the device. It
will come up with a window asking you where to look.
DESELECT EVERYTHING IN THIS LIST and click next. It
should say that it will install the best driver from the
path:
C:\Windows\Inf\Hiddev.inf
CLICK NEXT.
At this point it will finish with the install of the new
hardware or it will prompt you to put the Windows 98 CD in
the CD rom drive. If it prompts you for the CD DO NOT put
the CD in but instead do a Browse to the directory:
C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\ It should be happy at that
point and then it will finish.

You may get another hardware wizard this time looking for
the "mouse.drv" and/or "mouhid.vxd " files. You can again
Browse to the C:\Windows\System folder on your hard drive.

Hopefully, that helps.

Sounds like you haven't got them activated, which you can do in the bios
(holding the del key down on bootup) Sorry I can't be more exact but I
had to do this for my son recently. Sadly this is an XP group so you're
really in the wrong place :O)

And you're posting this in a *WINDOWS XP* group because...?!
