Hello

My Laptop Fujitsu/Siemans has 3 USB ports, Two at the rear and
one on the side. My Canon MP160 (multi) will only work when pluged into
the side USB port. WHY?

Can I adjust setting so that it will also work when plugged into one
of rear ports?

Thanks

Hello

WHY?

Thanks
Unfortunately, the word "compatibility" does not exist in computer terminology ... there are different "class definitions" of USB, this just adds to the confusion.

The thing to look for, these days, is "HighSpeed" commonly called USB 2, which is the newish 2.2 std and is supposed to be backward compatible, be also aware that this comes in 3 flavours ... however, manufacturers still cheat and will, if your lucky enough, only fit ONE HighSpeed USB2 port, the others are usually of the older 1.1 std USB

One asset is to buy a HighSpeed (if it don't say highspeed, then it ain't highspeed) USB Powered Hub and connect anything to that ... :)

The only "settings" you get are with MS ... make sure you are up to date buy using the "custom" button on Windows Update Site

USB is great, when it works, but since it's introduction, sometime back in 95/96, many people have had problems.

You will be pleased to know that Siemans are one of the Contributors to USB ... Cannon, however, are not.

Good luck. :thumb:

Thanks for the reply. The two ports at the rear do work. I have used a mouse and memory stick and printer(only).
