USB Ports not working after upgrade

I recently upgraded one of my workstations from XP Home
to XP Professional. I cannot get my USB ports to
recognize any hardware that is connected to it. Is there
an updated driver or any suggestions? I have unistalled
these and reinstalled them in the device manager, as well
as downloaded the most recent drivers for the scanner
that is in question. This scanner did work before the
upgrade, so I know that it is XP compatible. HELP ME
Please!!
 
whats the motherboard model. You need to install updated drivers for USB
chipset which would resolve the problem. Does the Device manager shows the
USB controllers?
