USB ports gone

I am rebuilding an HP Pavilion for a friend after the HD crashed. I have XP
and all drivers reloaded but none of the USB 2.0 ports are working. I booted
the PC with Knoppix and the USB ports work fine so it has to be a SW issue.
I have Legacy USB in BIOS turned off per HP's web troubleshooting page to no
avail. Anyone have an idea for me?

Just a thought.. Remove the USB ports from the Device Manager (now that
the BIOS setting has been changed), and reboot.
