I have a brand new Fujitsu N3010 laptop. It came with Win
XP Home. I upgraded it to Win XP Pro and also installed
Service pack 1 and other critical updates. Now my USB
ports are not working. They don't recognize anything that
is plugged into them. I would really appreciate some help
on this. Thanks in advance.

.

After installing Windows XP Professional SP1a following a
scratch install or upgrade from XP home, the USB ports
may no longer respond to newly attached devices.

The following step may not be necessary, but this fix
hasn't been tested without it. Based on Microsoft
Knowledge Base Article - 314634, "Windows XP Does Not
Detect Your New USB Device", use regedit to add a
key "Usb"
to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services".
Add a REG_DWORD Value "DisableSelectiveSuspend" with a
decimal value of 1, and close regedit.

In the Device Manager, delete all USB devices and exit
the Device Manager. Shut down the computer and reboot
(restarting may be all that's necessary, but it hasn't
been tested). Allow XP Pro to reinstall all of the USB
devices.

USB port autodetect should now operate normally.
