USB not responding after hibernation.

Andrew

I have a brand new IBM Thinkpad T40 running XP pro. This
machine has 2 USB ports. I had a USB mouse plugged into
it when it went into hibernation mode. When I came back
an hour later the mouse no longer works. Even after
reinstalling drivers, messing with the power supply in
the USB hub, installing various "patches" to correct this
problem from places online, and I've spent hours
reseraching what else to do! Please help!

I am on Service pack 1 (at least I beleive so. I vaguely
remember windows update giving me that - I think)

It is a Microsoft mouse, not too complex. It would just
be nice to have a working mouse with my laptop besides
the touchpad for gaming or when I have the extra room.

Thank you much,

Andrew

This is all I have found, and I was trying to avoid the
hastle of contacting support personel over the phone, and
its a saturday. :) Has anyone gotten a resolution to
this problem anywhere?

(THIS IS WHAT I FOUND ON MICROSOFT)

SYMPTOMS
When a computer running Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1)
resumes from hibernation, certain USB 2.0 devices may
appear to be removed, and therefore they no longer
function.
RESOLUTION
A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it
is only intended to correct the problem that is described
in this article. Apply it only to computers that are
experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive
additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely
affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you
wait for the next Windows XP service pack that contains
this fix.

To resolve this problem immediately, contact Microsoft
Product Support Services to obtain the fix. For a
complete list of Microsoft Product Support Services phone
numbers and information about support costs, visit the
following Microsoft Web site:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-
US;CNTACTMS

NOTE: In special cases, charges that are ordinarily
incurred for support calls may be canceled if a Microsoft
Support Professional determines that a specific update
will resolve your problem. The typical support costs will
apply to additional support questions and issues that do
not qualify for the specific update in question.

The English version of this fix has the file attributes
(or later) that are listed in the following table. The
dates and times for these files are listed in coordinated
universal time (UTC). When you view the file information,
it is converted to local time. To find the difference
between UTC and local time, use the Time Zone tab in the
Date and Time tool in Control Panel.
